After the South Korean tech giant company introduced the Samsung Galaxy M31s into the market, it described the series as incredibly affordable. Its main targets were those individuals who wish to purchase a robust handset without a lot. Over the few years the series has been in existence, the company has made a relevant portfolio, even though its aim is still the same.
The Samsung Galaxy M31s smartphone may not look very unique. With a closer inspection of the phone, its handset reveals every small feature that makes it one of the greatest M-series smartphones in the market.
The phone feels superior in quality with a glossy gradient finish back panel. Its two colors it comes with — Mirage Black and Mirage Blue — screams for everyone’s attention as they are quite soothing. The former color option applied as a review unit certainly appeals to those who like subtle- handsets. The colors on the back transition can graduate horizontally from deep Black to light Grey.
Its backside has a quad-camera setup on the top left corner in a non-protruding camera bump. All cameras have an L-shaped arrangement in an encasement that also hosts the LED flash.
The phone’s fingerprint sensor is on the power button, which takes only some few days to get used to, most especially if used to the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Its power button is placed right below the volume rockers on the right edge of the handset. Without a doubt, the overall design of the Samsung Galaxy M31s smartphone is immensely satisfying.
The Samsung Galaxy M31s has an upgraded design hosting an Infinity-O display for the selfie camera. Its screen bezels are super thin on the sides; however, they are narrow at the bottom. Samsung claims that the aspect ratio is 20:9 and its screen to body ratio over 91%, revealing a more viewing experience. When it comes to its display specification, the Samsung Galaxy M31s offers a Full-HD+ resolution (1080 x 2400 pixels) and a Super AMOLED display of 6.5-inch in size.

What is new?
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy M31s is similar to the Galaxy A51. Its front part has an edge-to-edge 6.5-inch AMOLED display, and a small hole used to hold the front-facing camera. When you check clearly at the top left, you will notice the rectangular camera bump. Its setup looks similar to that of the Galaxy S20 series. The left side has a SIM tray and a power button that doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and a volume rocker on the right. There are a USB-C port, a speaker, and a headphone jack at the bottom.
Even with its large 6.5-inch screen, the phone fits perfectly in your hand. It’s light and easy to hold and use in one hand, although it is still a tall phone. The Samsung Galaxy M31s’s back panel is plastic-made with a glass-like finish, even though you can’t differentiate the two makes. Also, its build quality is vibrant, with a five-star waterproof rating.
What is good?
The Samsung Galaxy M31s display is gorgeous, bright, and colorful. Even though its display has a refresh rate of 60 Hz, there is no other phone in the market with a mid-range and premium mid-premium segment with a better screen. Its side-mounted fingerprint scanner is way quicker and more reliable than in-display optical fingerprint sensors.
Samsung has installed its Exynos 9611 chipset inside the Samsung Galaxy M31s. Its performance is on the higher side, with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage efficient for running games, taking pictures, or shooting videos. Also, the apps and websites that run on the phone open very quickly.
When you find that its 6GB RAM and 128GB storage model isn’t enough, you can also opt for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The phone can take up to an additional 512GB of storage with a microSD card.
Its battery lasted a generous day-and-a-half on a single charge, which is perfect. At times, the battery can quickly get you through two days. A 6,000mAh battery powers the Samsung Galaxy M31s smartphone. The phone also comes in handy with a 25W bundled fast charger.
On this phone, the Samsung company made some little effort in improving the camera quality. At the backside, the phone has a 64MP primary Sony IMX682 sensor with an f/1.8 lens, a 12MP secondary sensor with a 123-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP depth shooter, and a 5MP macro lens. Photos that are taken in broad daylight using this phone look detailed and punchy. Although the colors over saturate a little, its auto focus is significantly faster has no lag when taking pictures.
The phone has an ultra-wide-angle lens with a broader field of view. When it comes to photos taken with the wide-angle lens, well, they are perfect. It also comes with portrait mode and a dedicated macro mode; however, its macro-mode isn’t that effective.
This Samsung Galaxy M31s performs well in low light, although despite its dedicated night mode, it at times loses its details. Still, all of its pictures came out great. On the front side, the phone has a 32MP wide-angle lens, and the camera is excellent for taking selfies and video calls. Its video capture quality is also excellent.
What is not right?
The Samsung Galaxy M31s comes with Android 10 alongside a Samsung’s One UI 2. It is very far from stock experience but mostly familiar. The Samsung company still needs to improve the quick software updates on its mid-range phones, though.
Should you buy it?
The smartphone has an excellent and colorful 6.5-inch AMOLED screen, a great camera, perfect battery life, a capable processor, a headphone jack, and excellent build quality. It also gives a premium impression, good enough to provide tough competition to other expensive smartphones.
In case you may be planning to replace your old device and are willing to switch to another phone, the Samsung Galaxy M31s is worth trying out. Rather than other expensive Android smartphones, we highly recommend you buy the Samsung Galaxy M31s.
